As a P365 and P365XL owner, I'm aware of the two primary issues that can arise when reassembling the gun. The first is that the takedown lever is not down, which is cured by lifting the slide stop, and the second is the safety lever near the sear is in the up position which blocks the slide. The main culprits when a slide won’t go on are: (1) the takedown lever won’t go into position, so you have to raise the mag-release and turn the takedown lever, (2) the “safety lever” is sticking up and you tap it down with a finger or shake it down before putting the slide on. (3) the recoil spring assembly isn’t properly aligned.The flat faces forward in the closed position. The rear end of the guide rod rests on the takedown lever (or pin). This requires the guide rod to protrude at the muzzle by about 3/16" or the difference between flat up and flat forward. If the guide rod is stuck at the muzzle the slide will stop about where your pic shows.I am having troubles with it during disassembly now. I have the slide locked to the rear, and then I can turn the takedown lever about 70% of the way. Of the 90* is it suppose to turn, it only turns like 50-60*. It will not detent into position like it did before and I can not release the slide while the takedown lever is only partially turned.IMO give the trigger a pull and then let go of it and regardless of the takedown lever position, try to take the slide off with a bit of muscle. When you fire a mag through your SAS, doesn't the slide lock open after the last round? If so, insert a new mag and release the slide with the slide release lever (or slingshot the slide if that's your preferred method). Easy fix. Rotate the takedown lever so it is perpendicular to the floor, it should not be able to turn further. Holding the slide, slowly return to forward position.
